Who We Are
The AWPGA is more than just a club. It is a brotherhood and sisterhood of Wirehaired Pointing Griffon enthusiasts forged in the fields and show rings and in many other activities. We are committed to creating a legacy for our breed and are dedicated to celebrating and promoting the versatility of our dogs. We are united by our passion and love for the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. That means with every triumph, we conceive of our dedication to protect and preserve our loyal companions. In many of our homes, the gleam of gunmetal and the scent of oiled wood serve as constant reminders of the thrill and challenges that await us on our next hunt. For others, our homes are a testament to success in the show ring, with ribbons adorning the walls, each one a reminder of the successes of Wirehaired Pointing Griffons. We are breeders who take great pride in matching the perfect puppy with the right family, whether they are experienced hunters, show enthusiasts, or first-time pet owners.
This club is more than just a place to gather and share our love for the breed. It's a family, dedicated to continual growth and improvement, not only for ourselves but for the betterment of the breed we hold dear. Whether you are a seasoned Griff owner or a newcomer looking to join our ranks, we welcome you with open arms. Come join us and be a part of our legacy.
What We Do
The AWPGA plays a pivotal role in recognizing and rewarding exceptional breeding practices, as well as holding events by which griffs can be judged (in field and ring). Through the AWPGA Database we meticulously record and publish the results of OFA exams, conformation achievements, hunt test titles, and various other competition titles. By maintaining a Breeder’s List, the association shines a spotlight on responsible breeders and sets a standard for the breeding community. Each year, we put on the National Specialty event, bringing together Griffs and their owners from far and wide, and fostering a sense of community and camaraderie. The AWPGA prioritizes the well-being of the breed at all stages. With an active breed rescue, AWPGA Rescue ensures that Griffs-in-need find loving homes. Education is another key focus, with initiatives like the Judges' Education program, ensuring that the unique qualities and standards of the breed are understood and appreciated by the judging community. We also publish a quarterly magazine, The Griffonnier, which serves as a valuable resource, connecting and informing enthusiasts, breeders, and owners. It is a platform for sharing stories, achievements, tips and tricks to understanding your griff, and provides a space where we can continue to celebrate this extraordinary breed.
